Bonehead mistakes...........

I won't embarrass myself with the full story. But here are pictures of one of the nicest Standing Liberty 1917 Type Two quarters I've ever dug. Best I can figure out, it is buried somewhere out in the landfill now.

Some funny stuff. I'm now at the point where I go into another room and can't remember why. Got so bad I keep a pad of paper and a pen in my pocket.. Now I forget the paper or pen. Won't dare tell my daughter.
Just as long as you don't forget what you're looking for, when your metal detecting, then you're doing okay.😁

Ouch! That reminds me of my own boneheaded mistake with an SLQ. Years ago, while vacationing in Nevada, I found one with my detector. It was in pretty poor shape and I don't remember the date. For some reason I didn't have a finds pouch and so put it in my pocket. Later that day, we went to the casino. This was long ago enough that the slot machines still took coins. Guess which coin was taken by a slot machine?

I still wince when I think of this little incident.

High Plains, I had the duty At NAS Barbers Pt, Oahu in late '63 or early '64. Never did know exactly what I was supposed to do but I did know a big, big bomb was suppose to go off on either Johnson Island or Christmas Island If I remember correctly. Any way the bomb went off and a short time later the night sky was filled with one ripple after another. The whole sky was filled with different colors cascading out off the south. For a few seconds I could have read a news paper, So very, very bright. I was told the explosion was over 700 miles away. My mind went crazy thinking about Nagasaki and Hiroshima in Aug. '45. Nukes can put the fear of God in you. Awesome sight esp. at that distance. No idea why I thought of this.

Took the 600 next door and cranked her up, got my first signal and realized my digging tool was home. I remember once years ago I was 10 miles away when I discovered my digging tool of choice was at home. Anyone want to make me feel better and list some of their mistake they have made.
Me too! Can't do much recovering hidden Treasure without a tool to dig with! & other things I did, was tossing coins away when empting trash & leaving my MD'ing shovel & etc where I left them when getting ready to leave! So many dumb things I did when tired or in a hurry! Oh, Well that is life as a weak fleshed human being! But I also was blessed in many, many ways; because my God is GREAT!! Amen! Ma

I've driven 2hrs to the gold fields, only to find that I've left the hose for my dry washer at home, other times I've forgotten the gas. I've gone to the parks only to find out I've forgotten to charge my detector batteries, glad to know I'm not alone.

I've really been enjoying "Bonehead Mistakes" originally posted by plowboy.
Who would think metal detecting could be so funny..! I love to laugh..! but I guess you have to be a metal detector to understand the humor.

About 3 weeks ago.. I found my first V-Nickel. I took it to work the next day to show my friend, and put it in my pants pocket and that was the last I saw of it.
Today at wife did the laundry... and found it in the washing machine. It's not a key date coin.... Thank God..! It all nice and clean... Thanks to Tide laundry Soap and wy wife

That's awesome fastdraw!! I'm glad it came back!🍀 It is a pretty one!

I was doing some air tests indoors with the sensitivity cranked down due to all the EMI. Forgot to dial it back up during my next hunt and wondered why I wasn't finding much.

Ha! I just did this today. Had sens set to 7 for the first hour or so. (lots of noise at my last hunt location) My buddy has an AT Pro. He dug an 1865 indian. I was getting mad. He kept bending down and digging, I'm getting nothing, no sounds, quiet, you know, not terribly unusual in a farm field. When I figured it out, I was mad

Within a half hour I dug a minie....YEAH!

What a day.

Digger, I know that feeling well.
So are my Roosevelt dimes and Indian head cents inside of Blue books but they weren’t filled up.
Hopefully you will score another as good or better.

My brother was down near Christmas Island for at least one of those atomic tests back in the early 60's. They had them cover their eyes with their hands. He said the blast was so bright that you could see the bones in hour hands. He has no idea how much radiation he was may have been espoused to but he was never able to father a child.

I've forgotten the shovel a few times. I had to use a garden digging tool instead of the small shovel..which is what I primarily use in the old farm sites and fields. The shovel now stays in the truck at all times.

Also have driven off to a hunt site and had forgotten to charge the e-trac battery pack. 18 miles away and the hunt lasted about an hour and a half.
I now keep the AA battery pack in the truck. Always have fresh batteries too.

OOOOOOOPPPPPSSSSSS-- Easy to do when tired & hungry after a day of swingin' & a diggin'! May you find lots of goodies on your next outing! Ma

I don't think this will ever end, today we were on a little outing, I am always looking for new hunting spots and I missed my road so at the next intersection I did a "u-ee", and went back, my wife asked me if I saw the cameras at the intersection! Uh no. I am now waiting for a mail ticket.

Man, am I so glad to read all these experiences. I thought "THE GEEZER FACTOR" had me but i can see now that i am semi normal! Maybe? I'm guilty of a good many of those experiences. My latest thing is i was hunting in a park near me with my coveralls on i pull my iphone out to check on my wife. All is well so i stuff it back in my pocket (so i thought) and continue to hunt for another 3 or 4 hrs. So i'm at the end my hunt and i am headed toward the trash can to dump some junk when a man comes walking briskly toward me asking if my name is Monte. I say yes why, He said you may want this and handed me my phone. I didn't even know that i had lost it! iPhone 7 plus. Come to find out he had been walking in the park, found my phone, seen my address on the phone, went to my house (no one there) left his name and number. He then wondered if the guy he saw metal detecting in the park was the owner so he returned to the park and found me. I am so grateful for folks with integrity.
