First standing liberty qtr and first V nickel

Got out for a couple hours this afternoon. Dug my first standing lib qtr and it was an "s" but the date is worn away. Also got my first V nickel, cleaning revealed it to be a 1904. Out of the 8 wheat cents (3) were 1919. Picked from an old home that I have only hunted about 4 hours so far. I...

    "fools gold"

Some items that fooled me. Thought I had me some gold. The big lacross token and the zirc ring are at least gold plated, the other two are pure crap. Had my heart beating for a few seconds there....

    Nephews first Salmon

Nice NY male Chinook (King) salmon. About a 35lb. fish. (it was released without weighing as hanging can damage internal organs on a large fish)

    Boy Scout supplies

Found the pocket knife near the eagle scout badge in an old yard. The necktie thingy was from a park. Must have been a bummer to lose an eagle scout badge. (I never made it past cub scouts, but now I've got my eagle badge!)

Going back in history to my first day out withTejon

Talk about beginners luck. I took out my Tejon to my old high school. I was sort of initally frustrated by all the trash and the confusion associated with learning metal deecting so I decided to just put it where "silver was supposed to be" and walked 100 yards to the edge of a ballfield and...

    This may sound goofy but....

sometimes it seems that it is more about what a signal does not do than what it does do. case in point being a small silver ring that was below most silver due to it's size but the signal didn't break up the way junk like tabs will. I don't know about other Tejon users but when I thumb my...

    small silver

Just some small silver jewelry. The rose is from a school. The tiny antique ring fits inside of a dime. It came from an abandoned home and I missed it the first three times I hunted there. It disced out earlier when thumbing than most silver due to it's size. I finally dug it cuz the signal...

some neat stuff from old schoolyard

An old schoolyard being bulldozed for a new parking lot gave up these finds to my Tejon. The copper plate is from an Atwater Kent radio. The moose is made of lead and weighs a whopping 75.6 grams The thimble is silver and weighs a modest 4.2 grams. It has the name "Burtha" engraved on it. It...

Thanks and a pic of old one eyed Butch

Thanks for all the kind words on behalf of old Butch. As you can see from the pic only one eye reflects light. I'm not sure if he can even see shadows with the bad eye. I just hope that people that do these type of lowlife acts get their debts paid back in kind. Patrick

    Battlefield detecting, Yes or No?

If we can ask the graveyard question, we can ask the battlefield question. I have my own reasons why I don't do it. Anyone able to kick it around without personal attacks and excessive sarcasm is invited to reply.

    For Jay Evans

Here's why a battlefield is sacred ground. Men like my oldest brother die on battlefields. That is their true "graveyard". Go dig at a battlefield if you want, but to me it is even more sacred than a church cemetery. Patrick
