    Meeting Chuck Norris

Back, way back in the day...when I was much younger...I used to work at a Radisson Hotel...and the staff got word that Chuck Norris was staying there, while he was in town for a book signing event...so I went out and got a couple of stills from 'Invasion USA', hoping to run into him and get it...

    Giving up on permission

Anyone ever try to deal with City issues about detecting in parks? WOW. Code says you must obtain a 'permit from the City Chief Engineer' before 'any type of digging', anywhere inside the City Limits...silly me, I actually wasted a few minutes and called the City Chief Engineer to...

The difference between an 'amateur' and a 'professional'?

Anyone care to elaborate on what the difference is between an 'amateur' detectorist and a 'professional'? One big valuable find? Years of experience? What makes someone a 'pro'?

Narrowing the search, looking for the stash

No GPS back in those days...so where would they hide valuables? Inside the house, they might dig in the corner of the foundation, or under the fireplace to hide money and posessions...outside would be a different story...they might look for a single tall tree in the middle of the field, maybe...

LRP LRP LRP...no love for the QD PRO?

No love for the QuickDraw Pro? Come on now....SOMEONE out there has to be using one, besides me...

    Detecting Johnny Ringos gravesite

Just got back in from an all-day drive, down to the gravesite of notorious Wild West outlaw Johnny Ringo, who is buried down in southeast Arizona. I've always wanted to check out the site, and today I made up my mind to just get it done. Although it's on private property, the owner has installed...

    Too many stories

Too many to post here...but here's the Cliffs Notes Version.. I once quit my job and ran off with a circus for a year (yes, really)...I've walked the cobblestones of Red Square in Moscow, been down inside Lenins Tomb and inside St Basils Cathedral, walked the shores of the Black Sea at...

    Detecting in Germany

Going to Germany next summer, does anyone know about the metal detecting laws over there?

    Pinpointing with the QD Pro

During pinpointing with the concentric coils, should I be concentrating my efforts right in the middle of the center coil, or at the top or bottom end? The user manual isn't too clear about that, just want to clear it up.

    Your ultimate metal detector

Don't get me wrong, I love my Quick Draw Pro, but would love to see: Gorilla Glass capacitive touchscreen (think of all the customizable configurations you could have!) User-accessable, rechargeable, long-life li-ion battery pack (3000+ mAh cellphone battery, perhaps?) A more collapsible...

Old coffee can at 16" down, inside was...

Out in the desert yesterday when my detector screamed at me to stop and dig. It was deep, about 14"-16" down...an old coffee can. My mind raced for a second...what's an old coffee can doing way out here, and what's inside? I remembered all the gold coins in California that were found. Stay...

    Can you dig it?

Been looking around for a great dig tool to add to my collection, finally found it. 14" stainless steel digging trowel by Wilcox, only $20 on &^%*^%$. Great reviews all over the internet, lots of 'indestructable' and 'unbreakable' comments and it has a lifetime warranty. A full 2" longer than...

Never snag your wire again!

1" i.d. split wire loom flex tube, Model # FLX-1007GRT, this 5 foot section is available at Home Depot for $2.98, enough to do two detectors. Sorry, I could only find it in the gray color. Wire is held in place and protected from snagging but can still 'give' enough if coil is moved. Ran the...

Greetings from AZ, newbie here. QDP on the way.

Hello all...been 'lurking' and reading as much as I can for the past few days...was pretty much sold on getting a Land Ranger Pro but finances demanded I get the Quik Draw Pro instead...that, and there was a $30 coupon on Amazon, so with the free shipping it was a no-brainer and the QDP will be...
