Is there any thing modern that compares to the SOV

I managed to pick up a few Sovs up over the years (XS, XS2-Pro, XS2a-Pro in various configs)). I prefer them over my Etrac. I guess the Sov is a simpler machine for a simpler time (and simpler digger), but still gets the job done in dirt and sand.

Sov coil Connectors and pin outs

Hi all. I came across 2 Sov Tornado coils 8" & 10" a while ago. I have a friend trying to bring them back to life. The problem is, I need 2 new coil connectors and the pin outs for them. ML won't give out the info, because its a company secret... REALLY? On discontinued and unsupported...

    Bought another Sov

I made a deal recently for a working ML Sov XS-2a Pro, S shaft, working Detech Excellerator-S 5" coil, 8" BBS coil (broken wires at the connector) & 10" BBS coil (probably a broken wire). All for $200 shipped. I'm curious if I did ok. Also, what are the chances of getting the coils back to...

    Some time to myself

I took Friday off after having to put dog to sleep the day before. I just needed some time to myself. I went to a park that is known for colonial finds. I didn't find anything colonial, but I did find (along with assorted trash) a zipper tag, 27 cents, a Chuckee Cheese token, a plated shamrock...

    Yard sale Fishers

I spotted a yard sale ad that said metal detector. So I wake up early on my speed in day and drive out. After I get there and fend off the other yard sale Hawks (a very aggressive bunch... Like territorial seagulls), I see the MD... Or should I say 2. Two Fishers, 1265x, 1280x, and headsets...

    Trip to Western Florida

I'll be in western Florida in 23 days. We have a nice place on the beach in Sanibel Island. Which detector would you take? E-Trac (stock) or Sovereign XS with meter and S-12 coil I can't take both, need room for a fishing rod.

Outing #1 for the year... 4 ring day... Kinda

Got to get out for about 4 hours, first hunt of the season at my favorite local park with my Etrac. Finds: Lots of slaw, 18 pull tabs, 12 bottle caps, bracelet, $2.35 in clad, tiny jewelry tag (size of a pencil eraser), a Vietnam Vets pin, 3 rings, and an earring (see... KINDA!). Sadly the...

    Garrett Service

I purchasesd a used Garrett AT Pro about mid summer. Since then, it's seen the ocean, beach, parks, school yards and colonial sites. It's taught me quite a bit, and frustrated me as well. During that time I noticed the PP switch started acting up. Working intermittently. Called Garrett CS, they...

    Leopards, turtle, and a dog

Went out for a walk with my E-trac to an elementary school near me. I'm trying to get a handle on this new-to-me machine. I swung for about 4 hours. Cut a lot of plugs. In the end, I found $3.50 in clad, including one 1940 Wheatie, 1975 dog license, a matching pair of gold plated (assuming...

    My first Colonials...

A friend offered to take me to one of his honey holes to ... As he put it, "cut my teeth on Colonial". He was on and found some nice coins. I managed a number of tent stakes and a nail. Then after a short chat and some tips, up pops 3 musket balls: (2) .495" dia and (1) .350"dia. Buck and...

Sov XS on the beach for the first time.

Hi all... We left for the beach early to beat the traffic, and after dinner I had the opportunity to do a some hunting on the beach. It rained heavily yesterday so it was mostly hard packed. But I decided to work from the soft sand to just into the tide. Found some toy soldiers, Hot wheels...

    Sov XS... Worth it?

I have the chance on picking up a Sov XS in a trade. Trade value running around $350. It looks to be in great shape and comes with 2 coils (12" Sunray and stock 8"). I have an ATP and love it. I have read many great stories and reviews about the Sovs. Are they all their cracked up to be? They...
