METAL DETECTING HOBBISTS DAMAGING THE ENVIRONMENT!!

Delaware State Journal: Sarah Kuchinisch, Science Reporter A preliminary report from a 5 year study, funded by the U.S. Dept of Agriculture, indicates there is a strong deleterious effect on earthworms, especially the variety known by the scientific name Genus Aporrectodea turgid, by the use...

Direct GPS Track Data Extraction from the CTX3030 Without Using XChange2.

I record GPS tracks of all my hunts in Google Earth. When I first used XChange2 I was very disappointed that GeoHunt tracks could only be shown in Google Maps. For about a year I poked around the data files of XChange 2 with no success in finding the data I was looking for. Finally I learned...

    Rare-Bit?

Found this interesting rabbit thingy today with the CTX. I'm thinking that it's a game piece made of bronze. The hole in the bottom is threaded. The coin is a quarter for size comparison. Pooh related? If you've seen/found anything like it please let me know. Thanks! Pete

    Copper Ball

Whelp, today's hunt didn't uncover much but there's still some uncovered ground in the field nearby the 1748 house. However one interesting find today was this big copper ball. It's a 1" diameter solid copper ball. It rang up 12 - 42 @ 4" deep and had a big THUNK! at the end of each sweep. I...

    Spatial Analysis / GIS / Export X-Y

Today I decided to see whatever differences there are between my Garmin Dakota 20 GPS and the embedded GPS in the CTX. It was quite an eye-opener. I took a screen capture from Xchange 2 and overlayed and aligned it onto Google Earth. Then I downloaded the Garmin track into GE. Then I did another...

    Off-the-Wall Question

Can multiple WM-10 receivers listen to a single CTX 3030 at the same time? Another way of asking is: Can more than one WM-10 be paired and then used at the same time with a single CTX 3030?

    Possible Future Problem Prevented

I noticed that when the lower shaft is extended to my desired length the coil wire is stretched quite a bit. The access hole, where the wire goes into the shaft, has fairly sharp edges where the wire could possibly chafe because it's pulled very tight to the hole. I think I have prevented this...

I Sure Miss My X-1 Probe

Dont get me wrong. I'm gonna have a long happy relationship with my new CTX. I took it out to a really pounded trashy area which I had covered with my ETrac to see what she could do and did very well. The CTX target separation is amazing. HOWEVER. I was forced to buy a ProPointer for sorting...

    The Real Skinny About Headphones

I called Minelab USA and asked about the headphone bru-ha-ha. The guy told me that the CTX 3030 audio jack is wired to industry standards and some headphones are not wired to that standard. They are not going to modify their detectors. Here is a new Minelab Knowledge Base article concerning CTX...

    CTX 3030 GPS Question

The brochure says "A GeoHunt is displayed on the Map screen and can be placed onto Google Maps". Is it Google Maps or Google Earth that is used? GE has much more capability with GPS data than GMs.

    MY PREDICTION

I predict Minelabs new machine to have an FBS ON STEROIDS detecting capability, color screen, X-1 type probe option and wireless headphones. What do you think?

    Second Seated, Same Site

A couple weeks ago I pulled out my very first Seated Liberty coin at a construction site where a new High School is being built. A sweet 1876 dime. My research showed that the site was once owned and farmed by a Presbyterian minister back in 1868. So today, because the temperature had finally...

    Old Dog, New Trick

I just taught myself an interesting trick. I was able to directly download a pattern file from this site to the E Trac Emulator and look at it. It's pretty cool. (BTW, I'm using Windows 7) Here's how: 1. Right mouse click "open" from the Attachments block of the post. 2. Click on "Properties" 3...
