    Help Identifying Iron Part

Thank you HuntinDog, appreciate the help with identifying the find. Old no doubt.

    Help Identifying Iron Part

A little more context. This picture I found on the internet from someone who posted this find 6 or 7 years ago while searching for civil war relics. I found the same exact part here in TN, except the one I found was much more corroded, so I posted this pic instead. Think civil war era. Its...

    Help Identifying Iron Part

I found one of these parts while detecting. Any idea what this is?

    SE Finds from Yesterday!

Here are pics of the coins that I found yesterday, second time out with my SE this year and hit a new spot that I researched over the winter. The 1875 IH is my oldest coin to date and that was matched by the 1875 Seated dime. I had never found a seated dime before, nor had I ever found a V...

    SE Finds Today

Well, it has been awhile since my last post, but winter is over here in Wisconsin, so I have gotten out recently. To refresh your memory, I bought an SE late last October and got out several times before the snow flew. I found my first Barber dime with it last fall, actually, I found three of...

    Hot ground?

I was metal detecting in the old park yesterday and came across an area that was absolutely full of iron, or so I thought. I got a decent signal and dug up a bunch of coal. The coal was very close to the surface and there was a ton of it. There was also a clad penny in there. Does coal cause a...

    Excalibur or SunRay 5" Coil

I can get an Excalibur for $99 or the SunRay for quite a bit more. Which would you choose, given that the Excalibur is quite a bit less. If they are pretty similar, I am going for the Excalibur.

    Iron falsing

I think that I am starting to get a handle on iron falsing with my SE. Iron falsing always seems to hit in only two directions, not four. When you sweep iron falsing and think you know where the target is, you cannot pinpoint it. It pinpoints in different places.Even iffy coins pinpoint good...

Another afternoon at the old park.....

The old park would not give up any silver today, but I did dig some nice junk! Don't know how old that bullet is, but it has two rings on it. Also found several wheat's. 17D, 18S, 19, 19, 21 and 34. One of the 1919 wheat's was on edge standing vertical in the sidewall of the hole I dug. I...

My son's first time metal detecting!

My boy found this interesting aluminum tin thingy at the old park I have been hunting. It was pretty dirty when it came out of the ground and we could not tell what it was. He cleaned it up when we got home and I told him to go look this up on the Internet and try to determine what it was. He...

    Sensitivity

Just wondering what most individuals can get away with for their 8" coils. I have recently been working an iron infested park that turns old copper wheat pennies into green blobs. I can only run my sensitivity somewhere between 14-16, that's it. Any higher and I get falsing high tones that chirp.

    Another Barber!

It was another beautiful day here so it was out detecting this afternoon. I brought my 15 year old son who is new to detecting and using a GTI2500. I took him to the older park where I found two barbers and a merc two days ago. Most of the clad here is gone and I did not want my son to get bored...

    First Barber(s) find!

The weather here is beautiful, so I got out for two hours this afternoon. The colder weather should be settling in on us soon here in Wisconsin and then it will be all over till Spring. I went to the old park where I found three wheat's mixed in with iron yesterday. Picked one area and hit it...

First time out with X1 Probe

My probe and upper shaft arrived for my SE today, and of course I put them to the test. I was eager to get out and dig some of those signals that I had left behind in the recent past. I went to a location where I knew there was a quarter next to a tree, but I could not locate it a week ago. It...

    Sunray X-1 Probe for SE

Well, I took the plung and ordered the X1 probe from Sunray. Ralph said they just received the new black upper shafts for the SE, so I will have the probe mounted on a new shaft. Can't wait for the new toy to get here so I can go back to some of the trees that have coins hiding in the...

    First silver with SE

Well I finally found some silver tonight, although nothing great. A 64' Rosie at 5". Last night I found two nice wheaties that were within 3" of each other. A 1918 and a 1919, only about 4" deep in a well hunted out park. They must have missed these coins as they were on the edge of the park...

    4.5" x 7" or the 5" coil

I am looking into purchasing a small coil for my SE. I have an 8" Minelab coil, but want something even smaller for the really trashy iron infested parks in my area. How would you compare the two coils in the subject line? Depth of each? If you had to choose just one, which would it be...

    New SE User

I am new to the explorer. Recently purchased an SE and have about 12 hours on it. I know of only one explorer user in my area (he is a rookie too), most have DFX, so there is no one to directly learn from. I noticed that snowy posted a wave file in the other forum. If some of you guys could...

    Explorer SE

I took the plunge and ordered an Explorer SE and the X1 probe recently. I currently own a Garrett 2500 GTI, so this will be a new experience for me and hopefully lead to more finds in the hunted out areas that I frequent. I live in East Central Wisconsin. I have been reading this forum for...
