    always bring enough shovel.....:rage:

I stopped by a private property I just got permission to hunt and failed to bring a good enough shovel...I only had a hand held digging tool. The field was pretty quiet and not tooooo trashy and I found multiple deep targets but gave up digging because the soil had lots of clay and rocks and I...

XP Deus in the Rocky Mountains ?

Hey all, I'm pretty new to the Deus and have been learning a lot from Andy's book while hunting here in farm-country-midwest. A friend and I are going to be taking a long weekend out west to do some hiking and camping and we were going to bring our detectors to hunt around a mining camp from...

Todays hunt :) new oldest coin

Second trip to a piblic area.... Two hours or so, dug lots of pull tabs and aluminum scraps.... The locket sounded just like a zinc penny and i almost moved on w/o digging... Dont think it has any value but still fun The Indian head is my oldest coin to date, so I'm pretty happy. Its 1882...

    Park? School? Town Square?

I'm less experienced in the hobby than most of you so I figure I'd pick your brains.... Hopefully this isn't a beaten-to-death subject I took my Deus out to a public area for the first time the other day and had a blast...lots of target....way less trashy than my own yard (1878 house) which is...

First casual hunt at a public park :)

Up until now I've only hunted my own yard as i learn my MD and get the hang of things so i dont dig up every nail etc. So today after work i packed the kids and my XP Deus and went out to a public park (after checking with the appropriate park district that it was OK) ... I didnt hunt it very...

    Todays yard finds

Todays finds, nothing too exciting: Small coin spill of modern stuff, an 87 quarter and 4 zinc pennies all on top of each other in the same small hole about 2-3" deep The 1917 wheaty was in a different spot maybe 4" deep.....its now my oldest dated coin beating out the 1918 wheaty. Still...

    Large deep iron objects...

I was out hunting with my Deus and i hit a nice high tone, 95 on the vdi... Not overloading, repeatable for different sides. I am new to the Deus so i dont have a very highly trained ear yet (multi tones)...but it sounded like a good target to me. Turned out to be a shovel head about 2feet...

Neat little token i found today

Found this in the yard of 1878 farm house near Metamora/Eureka.... I found a record of the store existing in 1912 but i dont know when they opened and closed. Still no silver coins yet :( i just picked up an XP Deus from craigslist on Monday and am learning a lot about it still so i am...

    Deus charging question

seemingly silly question...but I've always lacked in electronics knowledge....especially when it comes to batteries Is there any reason i can't use one of those USB lithium ion battery portable backup power packs to recharge the Deus? if all coil and remote (and headphones that i don't have)...

    Weekend Farm finds

Nothing too fancy but was a good time. Found a mini toy lantern and the remains of a bronze bell. The bell still had the "clinker" in it, packed in mud but it had rusted and was no longer attached. I found it under the biggest tree in on the property....so maybe part of a wind chime...

    Family farm 5-17-2014

2nd significant amount of time spent in the yard of the 1878 farm house today. Found some newer coins 3 pennies and a dime, a few rusty buckles probably from some tack, a ton of old scrap garbage. My nearest find for the day was the 2nd target i dug today.... Some sort of medal? Looks like...

    Well, that was anticlimactic!

Totally anticlimactic.....i was detecting around a foundation of an old corn crib. I had the discrimination knob on my compadre up a bit around the foil setting....and i got a beep. It was not a very clean beep, but i decided to dig out the trash, just to be rid of it.....so i start...

    First find from family farm

My tesoro compadre arrived today and I took it out for a spin around the yard, trying to hit the major obvious areas along walk ways and near garden areas before the sun went down. There is a lot of foil in the yard and lots of rusty nails that fool the descrimination knob! I got a couple good...

    Almost ready!

I posted a while back in here and then disappeared for a long time, but detecting was always on my mind so I finally made the leap and picked up a detector...Tesoro Compadre with the 5.75" coil....I heard they were really good units for the money. Waiting for it to be delivered...hopefully...

    New guy help?

an other new-guy posting for the first time.... I happened across this forum when I was wandering the net killing some time. I've always been interested in detecting but never got into it because I didn't want to buy something I knew nothing about and end up with a POS detector....or spend...
