    Dug a good one...

I haven't posted in a good while and just don't dig like I once did but had to show off this beauty. Dug on part of my family farm that greedy cousins have sold to developers. I like to think the relic gods were saying, "Ok,here is the last good thing you will dig here". Seems to be so. HT/B...

    A shout out to Fisher...

I bought my F75 used about 4 years ago. For the past 2 years it would do weird things like go crazy and chirp for no apparent reason or the volume would competely go away. Next time I used it everything seemed to work fine but finally it got so bad I decided to send it in for evaluation. I...

    A cool coin and relics...

I posted this on the Fisher forum just to let those guys know that the F75 is a great relic machine. I have been using mine for about 2 years now and even though I use a Nautilus 2B, Tejon, and now a T2 LTD, it is still my machine of choice for relic hunting certain sites. I have hunted this...

A very cool coin and CW relics...

Relic season is fast disappearing but I just had to try one more time before beans are all planted around here. I have hunted this field several times in the past and found 3 ringers and a breast plate so since it is the only unplanted spot around I gave it another try. Got a nice 70s reading on...

    Last two hunts....

I found a couple picket sites that were near each other. Here are the results. The first pic has Spencer and Henry bullets with flat buttons, concertina and harmonica reeds, a nice mystery plate, toe plate, 1859 Indian Head. The second has 3 ringers, a weird solid base bullet that must be...

Not sure what all the fuss is about....

but I've have been using the Gold Bug for a few weeks now and I don't know which model it is because I traded for it. But it has the 11 inch and the small coil and I have been having a ball with it. I swing the F75, Nautilus 2B, and Tejon but this is the most fun I have had with a detector in a...

Nice eagle button and a whatzit

Dug this button today after 1" of rain yesterday. The F75 was smoking though the good stuff eluded me. Also found this handle that may have been a clock key. Here is a before and after aluminum jelly shot. This is the 3rd gilted button I have found at this site. All the other eagles I have ever...

    Today's hot digs...

Wheat had been picked and beans planted yesterday but the owner and I are on good terms so I had to give it a go. Tough to swing in 8" stubble but the Nautilus is the best machine for swinging above crop stubble. I started at 5:45am and by 7:00am I was completely wet with sweat. This is a 15th...

    Dug a little today...

I've been off this week and couldn't resist the urge to dig even though the heat and bugs have been tough. Managed to scrape up these few relics in about 4 hours. Rosette, probably a Victorian era brooch, variant high bases, 3 ringers and toe tap. I was drenched with sweat! Mike

    Bentonville finds...

Had pretty good luck yesterday at Bentonville. Austrian bayonet scabbard throat, enfield and 3 ringers (the white ones are .54 cal.), silver plate, and camp lead. Also found a lock plate last week there. Before and after clean up pics. Date is wrong on the before pics. Can anyone id the plate...

    Lead question...

Does anyone know what kind of lead stock was used for bullet making? I found these lead pieces in a small area about 20 by 20 feet and the fired Enfield was nearby. There has never been any kind of structure near here. Some of these have been sliced. Thanks for any help. Mike

    A few meager finds...

I have really been in a relic finding funk lately. These are some of what I have been lucky enough to save from a few hunts. I posted the eagle A earlier but the rest were found recently. A couple of Henry shells, harness buckle, a cleaner, 3 ringers ( 1 fired), what my imagination wants to...

Some relics and a first for me...

I dug these this morning. The eagle A is the first I've found. Unfortunately it is flattened (poker chip maybe?). I think the slender brass is a part of a heel plate but that is only a guess. Thanks for looking. Mike

    Quick hunt...

Only had about an hour to detect but I got some goodies in a hurry! Henry with lead still in the cartridge, eagle button, and a couple of minies. These were deep signals that I probably would not have found without the Nautilus and 15" coil. This has been a good site for me! Mike

Some digs today and a nice large cent...

I dug this beauty in a CW campsite along with an eagle I, fired round ball, clasp and a whatszit. Can anyone id the brass whatzit? Thanks for looking and HH! mike

    Zouve buttons...

A friend and I hit a few hammered camp sites yesterday. He found his first 3 ringer and I found these large brass ball objects. Someone on another forum id them as Zouve buttons. They seemed kinda large for buttons but what else could they be? Here's the rest of the finds as well. Mike

    Couple of buttons

I dug this cuff size button in a Union 15th Corps camp site. I thought it was an eagle cuff until I cleaned it up. Howard College was founded in 1841 in Marion, Ala. It actually burned down in 1854 with many injuries to its students. Today it is Samford College. There is no back to the button...

    Found a stirrup!

I got a deep good signal with the Nautilus & 15" coil. As the hole got deeper I was suspecting iron and after digging over knee deep.. sure enough it was iron but what a piece of iron! This is my first stirrup and it was dug here on the farm on a Yankee camp site. How is the best way to clean...

    More bullets today...

I checked out another potential site today and bam.... right off the bat I started finding cleaners! I was excited as it looked like my research had paid off but alas... it was not to be. These were all that was found and all of this was found in a 20 foot circle. I thought I had found a nice...

Found a few and a whatzit...

These were found on the outskirts of a 15th Corps camp. Not sure about the large brass object. I thought it looked like a fence post finial but made of brass??? Besides, there are no house sites nearby that would have had such a fence. Any thoughts? Thanks and HH! Mike
