    Permission granted, i got to hunt an 1800's home site last weekend. The road that once led to the house is also part of the field, which meant a half mile walk to reach the location. As all old farms are, the site was iron heavy but the 8x6 SEF with its excellent depth and seperation performed...

    I love this book published by the Illinois State Historical Society titled "Illinois Place Names" (revised copy printed in '89). There are over 600 pages of invaluable information...it lists virtually every named town that has existed, or still exists. It states when a ghost town's post office...

    Question on GPS features of CTX...

    ...can "My Places" from Google Earth be loaded into the CTX?? I usually carry a handheld GPS to mark the spots or take me right to the ones downloaded fom GE.

    ATG AND ATP operating frequencies...????

    I'm a long time Minelab user and for various reasons I'm considering buying an AT Gold. Question...the Garrett website comparison chart shows different operating frequencies... ATG is 18 kHz, and ATP is 15 kHz. Why the difference? Is the higher frequency better for finding gold??

    big beautiful tree

    This big old cottonwood sits on a 1870s farm site that i recently began to hunt...the detector shows tree's girth. Tall grass and fallen branches make the hunt tough, and i have only found a few relics near the tree, but i'll be back again.

    can someone ID what metal this is??

    I found this ring made of metal on a 1800s farm site and can't figure what it is made of. It had zero corrosion on it when pulled out of the ground, it's fairly heavy, and rang a solid 12-28 on the Etrac. Any ideas?? thanks for the help!!
