Ancient Asian artifact or cheap junk?

I found this about 2" down directly under a swing. It is quite heavy and sounds like brass. Any help with identifying would be appreciated. The writing appears Thai or another Asian script. [attachment 226842 IMAG1306.jpg][attachment 226843 IMAG1305.jpg][attachment 226844 IMAG1307.jpg]

    MD recommendations for Kauai beaches

I might have the opportunity to visit the beaches of Kauai this year. I currently use an older excal 800 but am wondering if a White's DF PI might perform better on the beaches there. I have been considering a DF for a while now. anyway. Anybody have any experience on these beaches and might...

Found this ring today for the owner

I belong to a group that finds lost jewelry at owners' request. Because the owner provided accurate information, I found this little white gold gem in only 15 minutes on land with an excal! See...the excal DOES do well on land! :surprised: It is a good feeling to find stuff for people who...

    Scary day with the excal

I have an excal 800 with yellow headphones (purchased as a dealer demo in 2008). I was searching for a lost wedding ring all day Friday in a local creek, up to 6' deep. I had taken this excal in the water only once before. At the end of the unsuccessful search, the excal started to false with...

    Officer Insignia metal content

I was detecting the local schoolyard several days ago with my excal and found a Lt. Colonel insignia pin. It sounds like silver, feels like silver and looks like silver. Does anybody know what metal is used to make these? My research has so far turned up no conclusive answer.

    My Sovereign

After much thought, I have posted my sovereign with accessories in the classified ads. I did enjoy the Sovereign mostly, just wasn't as impressed as I thought I would be. After saving $, I will be upgrading to an etrac. For now, I will use my trusty Excal 800. I appreciate all the idea...

    Power Supply for Accucel Charger

I am considering purchasing the accucel charger. I don't really want to build a power supply for it. I have an old laptop AC adapter. Would anybody be able to tell me if the amperage on this is too great for the accucel, or will it suffice? Thanks. I have attached a picture of the adapter...

Finally ended my "ring finding" drought

    I found this .925 men's ring in a park between downpours...... [attachment 181869 IMG00006-20101211-0602.jpg]

    Silver find with my Sovereign?

I found this piece about 5" down in a field with sandy soil. The TID of my Sovereign indicates silver but has no markings. It appears to have been glued into something. It is quite cool, looks handmade. It weighs 7.8 grams. [attachment 181713 IMG00003-20101208-0833.jpg]

    Sovereign Meter Repair help needed

I purchased an used Digisearch meter on eBay for pretty cheap (~$100). I used it a few times, but suddenly, during a hunt the Sovereign threshold became erratic. I hit a target and discovered that target was the U-shaped piece, pictured below, that belonged to the plug at the end of the meter...

    Meter Problems

I recently purchased a newer 180 meter. When the meter is attached to the sovereign GT, the detector is unstable. The meter will adjust to only ~80 when detecting a dime. The insulation where the wires insert into the plug is worn...could there be a short in the wires? Thanks.

    Two more rings today

I found two more rings today: both in the same hole. One is a copper engraved and the other silver with an unknown stone. My buddy has found 4 silver rings and a 14K white gold ring in 24hours: WOW[attachment 176492 IMG00130-20101016-1916.jpg]

Yet another ring from the park today

Thanks to Critterhunter, synthnut, Deanasaur, and crazyman who helped me get the correct setup for my GT in the horrible soil at the park, I found another ring today: this one 14k gold! It seems as if this park, which is HEAVILY hunted, is yet full of nice finds. I found four quarters 3-4"...

First silver ring with the Sovereign

I have owned a Sovereign GT for about 3 weeks, having sold my Expl 2. I have been struggling with the horribly mineralized soil in the Portland, OR area. Finally, I think I am catching on a bit. Yesterday, I hunted a very heavily metal detected park. I am only able to set the Sovereign to...

    Excal NiMH battery pod

I have a cracked battery pod for my older excal 800. I want to upgrade to a NiMH battery, since the batteries are also not holding a charge for more than 2 hours. Can anybody recommend a dealer who might have the pods? I have contacted a couple and no one seems to have the pods... Thanks

Pinpointing with Explorer II driving me crazy

Granted, I have only used this Explorer for a matter of 3 weeks, but it is very frustrating so far. I have found nothing but clad (no silver yet). I am using the stock coil and wonder if I should consider getting an aftermarket. I can pinpoint when only one target is under the coil, but have...
