Not a bad day of detecting, we were on the silver!

It was 37 when we started out today..... lots of layers and a chemical hand warmer in each glove.... off we went! We hit this park last week and between two of us we took 102 coins. Notable finds last week was limited to a Sakajewea dollar coin. This week we hit the same park but we moved to a...

Bought one if those anti-glare sheets for my screen, my review.

I, like all of you, can hardly see my Etrac screen. I've been looking look at this product online for a while and I finally decided to try it. I won't mention the name since I've seen a few get scoulded when doing so. My thoughts after a 6 hour outing....... did it help with glare YES, is it...

    Checking in on the forum

I had a few of you guys ask me to check in once in a while after migrating to the Etrac, so I thought I'd drop in. I've been out 4 times with it, it's been taking a little retraining. The sounds are different, but I'm getting that hang of it. Outing 1, a few coins. Outing 2 almost nothing...

Moving on up to an Etrac

I haven't posted in a while, quite honestly hadn't hunted much this summer. Between the extreme heat, work, trying to get a little boating in, and some health issues, I didn't get out much. I spent 8 weeks of my summer in cardiac rehab after a mild heart attack and getting 2 stents. As a mental...

My latest and one of my strangest finds returned to the owner

I have an unusual story and I’m still not sure what to think about it. This was about a month or so ago and I just now got around to post the story. I was detecting with my brother and brother-in-law. We stopped at an old homestead and my brother in law knocked to ask for permission to detect...

Brass tag marked Pitts 1838 1904, what is it?

I found this detecting last weekend in Pittsburgh. My initial thought is that it may be a burial marker, but that's a guess. It was found in a side yard of a homesite, it's about 2.5 wide at the top 2" wide at the bottom, 2" high, and about 1/8" thick.

Learn from my dilemma.. replace your 1/4" to 1/8" headphone adapter!

While detecting last weekend my headphone plug came out of the jack with a few extras pieces! At that point I couldn't use the speaker or the headphones, the adapter was broken off and stuck in the hole. The adapter that plugs into the detector that accepts the smaller headphone jack self...

First outing with my new Digger coil, a bit to learn yet I think

I finally got my new Digger coil out for its maiden hunt yesterday, I had limited success but I'm not discouraged. I can't help but remember when I switched from My Tesoro Toltec 100 to my Minelab 705 gold pack thinking I just wasn't onto it yet, that's probably what I have here. I did find 2...

question about low serial number Digger coils

Mapper65 and I were talking the other day..... it is my understanding that something was changed on the Digger coil soon after release, I have also seen things about being sure that your Xterra was made after a certain date in order for it to work. My details are sketchy on this, that is why I...

Anyone familliar with a "NEL" coil?

I personally never heard of these coils, info was recently passed on to me by a friend. These people make a 5" DD coil similar to the 6" "Digger" coil and it's waterproof, the manufacturer claims as follows: The Nel coils are waterproof. All NEL coils are DD coils. They are tuned to exact spec...

Check out this dollar bill, what do you think?

This is kind of off subject for detecting, but I want your opinion or ideas. I got this dollar bill for change last week, the back of the bill is perfect, the front has this weird blank spot. It doesn't appear to be torn, there doesn't appear to have had anything like an acid spilled on it, I...

For those of you who have been following my posts, you know that I have been about the luckiest guy around the last two weeks.... 2 walking liberty halfs and 2 Franklin halves in the period of 7 days. After the lucky lady last week, only 4 coins this week..hehe

Thinking last week was the highlight of this year's detecting season already, today was another story! I knew of an old house that was recently torn down, I never walked the site, but for lack of a better place we took a shot. The place was a mess, bottles and junk everywhere, no easy digging...

One lucky lady today, a first personal find!

Having being a detectorist since 1972, this is a first for me. Today Mapper65, Mom, and I headed out to a new site. I had seen this place torn down probably 5 years ago, there was so much junk left behind I kind of put it on the bottom of my list. Today, junk, broken bottles, and misc crap...

Long hunt today, little reward but did find a Barber!

Mapper65 and I hit the road and searched a few spots today. There was an old home in a new condo plan that I knew about, fortunately got permission today. We hunted it hard, I had my first wheatie in the first 5 minutes.. we thought we found a honey hole. Two hours later I had 2 wheaties and a...

Another sucessful outing ...... with diamonds!

It hit 43 today so the 3 of us headed out. My grand total was 21 quarters, one of which was a silver '63, 20 dimes, 9 nickels, 27 pennies, 1 stainless pendant, and 1 what we believe is a 1/2 carat/1/2 + diamond ear ring set in gold! I plan to take it to the jewelers tomorrow for verification...

One COLD hunt yields silver and a bunch of coins

Three of us went out to brave the cold today, we lasted 4 hours. Had it not been for chemical hand warmers in our gloves we would have given up. The Garrett pro pointers struggled with the cold, mine worked but it had a huge chunk of ice on the end that definately affected its operation. I had...

Diggers and Savage Family Diggers, the find values are all wrong!

Who didn't know that the values that these guys place on items was not even close? I found a 1909-1926 Model T hubcap, Diggers found one identical that they said was worth $200. I thought that I had a good find since mine was in better shape. Today I looked on Ebay, I saw the identical one as...

Some people just suck! Trying to do good, there's always at least one IDIOT out there!

I found a ring a little while back in a park, I posted an Ad on Craigslist that I found a ring in this park, "if you can accurately describe it and tell me roughly where you lost it, I will return it to you". Here is what I got, word for word, poor grammer and all!: IDIOT: That is my gold ring...

    Rainy day detecting yields silver!

I've had my eye on this park for a while not knowing if I'd get thrown out or not. Its in a more affluent area so I figured that it may yield some better goodies. It was raining slightly when I started, perfect for park hunting since no one will be around. Within 15 minuted I pulled a big silver...
