    Pre Civil War find!

Finally found a pre Civil War coin!! I was visiting relatives out of town and basically killing time before dinner at a nearby park. The ground was semi thawed and with some effort I could dig the dirt out in chunks. After digging several coins, in an area I've detected many times before I got...

First US dollar coin this year

2000 Sacajawea US golden dollar although not so golden now after spending who knows how long in some heavily fertilized ground. The cross is not silver....probably aluminum. I was using my V3i and SEF 10x12. Most of the coins were deep. One of the dimes was 8+".

    Finds from last week

Detected for about 3hrs this past Wednesday. Found some clad and a couple of pieces of costume jewelry. I've never seen a piece like the one with the pin-back and loop. Kinda looks like and upside down "thunderbird" design. It's stamped with "AS" or "A5" on the back. I'm pretty sure it's "AS"...

    Another .925 ring

Was able to detect yesterday for about 2 1/2 hours before sleet & rain started. Found some clad & another silver ring. Again, nothing old but lots of clad and surprisingly not much junk. After a while I started passing up the zinc signals but will dig them next time. Can't wait to go back.

    Silver ring!

Got lucky last Wednesday and found another ring. Sterling (.925) this time. Also dug up a bunch of clad - a little over $9.00. Nothing old (not counting me) but it kept me busy for a couple of hours. Here's the pictures....didn't think anyone would be interested in seeing the scrap and foil.

    Struck Gold!

Got out to a park with a sports field for a couple of hours this afternoon. Dug up a few (16) clad coins and a nice mood ring a few inches deep. Then got a solid VDI of 48 with 7.5kHz dominant. Thought it was probably a ring pull tab but out popped a man's (or very large woman's) 10k yellow gold...

    Sledding hill

I got out to a nearby sledding hill for a while yesterday afternoon. The snow was mostly melted off the hill but it was still snow & ice packed at the bottom. Hadn't been there long when a park employee stopped his truck and asked me if I would try to find some lost keys. So, I got sidetracked...

    Penny spill

Hi all. Yesterday I stopped at a large partially snow covered wood chip playground for a little over an hour. The only coil I had with me was the 10x12 SEF so I couldn't get very close to the playground equipment. Near the bottom of one of the larger slides I got a huge signal bouncing around...

    EclipseDD question

My EclipseDD is looking a little bloated. It reminds me of a fish laying on its side. My cover barely fits over the bottom. With the coil sitting on a flat surface, with the cover off, it rocks back and forth from front to back and side to side. All of my other coils are perfectly flat on the...

    Help With Mystery Metal?

Got out yesterday for about 7 hours due to warmer than usual weather here in Eastern Missouri. Dug 174 coins (100 pennies, 34 nickels, 32 dimes, & 8 quarters), 113 assorted junk items (43 of which were can tabs), and a SS cross on a 24" broken chain. Wow, were my legs tired! My mystery is the...

Heya! For those interested, I just saw that Radio Shack is selling the Time Ranger for $159.99 on the web. Happy Holidays and Happy Hunting if you can get out!!!

    Mole Tunnels

Has anyone besides me experienced false signals over mole tunnels. This weekend I was detecting a little used soccer field which was infested with moles. The little buggers had tunneled everywhere. Several times I got solid repeateable signals in the dime range at around 3" to 4" and digging...

    LCD Screen Protectors

Has anyone out there used a screen protecting film on your detector LCD screen? Just curious if they work very well to keep the scratches to a minimum and if you can still see the screen ok.

    Platinum or Gamma?

I am considering buying a BH Platinum or Gamma 6000 (or possibly an Omega 8000). After looking thru the manuals for the Platinum and the Teknetics Gamma 6000, which are similarly priced, they both seem to be very similar machines. However, I noticed that according to the manuals posted on the...

    Park hunt

Had some time to kill last night and went to a local park after dark and started swinging near the outfield of a baseball field. The first good repeatable signal was bouncing between dime and quarter. Digging down about 5 inches I made a small hole and started pulling quarters out of the ground...

    Rechargeables

I am seriously considering buying some 9V NiMH rechargeables to use in my Time Ranger. Has anyone tried the Tenergy brand batteries? All-battery.com has them on their website and they show them as 9V 250mAh but I wonder if they really are....or are they actually 8.4V? They are about half the...

    Speaking of cemeteries......

Anyone seen the latest issue of Lost Treasure magazine? There is an article on how to metal detect cemeteries. I subscribe to Lost Treasure and am not trying to promote it to anyone but this article in the current issue is worth reading. Perhaps the subject isn't as taboo or unthinkable as we...

    Discovery 2000

An aquaintance of mine has a Radio Shack Discovery 2000 which he may decide to sell to me as a backup to my Time Ranger. Does anyone know which Bounty Hunter model compares to the 2000? How much should a good lightly used one sell for? I want to offer a reasonable price but neither of us knows...

    Three days in a row!

I was able to get out to a nearby park three mornings in a row last week! WooHoo! I found 101 coins with my Time Ranger (not to mention lots of junk metal); 3 quarters, 14 dimes, 8 nickels, and 76 pennies (no wheats). I didn't dig anything deeper than 2" and only worked about 3/4 of the park. My...

    Bounty Hunter 10" coil

Heya! Has anyone used the BH 10" coil with the Time Ranger? Does it make any difference? I purchased one for my Time Ranger but haven't used it yet because I don't really understand what it does differently from the standard 8" coil. My Time Ranger has kept me busy digging each time I have gone...
