    1894 O Dime

Went after work to an older section of town scouting for a detecting spot when I happened upon an empty lot that the house has been gone probably 30 years. For some reason somebody bulldozed off the top layer of modern wine bottle screw caps and zinc pennies...I dug about 8 or 10 targets...

    3/22/2017, a few finds

Coming home from work this morning I decided to revisit an old house site I haven't been to in a few years. Just a quick hunt, maybe 2 hours and here's a couple pics. This is the first boy scout token like this I've found, not valuable and in rough shape though. Nice Indian 1905 cent and a few...

    Walking Liberty Half

Today I finally found my second silver half, and it took almost three years since my first (a 1934) about a hundred feet from where I found this one today. When I found the first half, an old widow (very nice lady) who lived in the last remaining house on the block at the time had been watching...

    February Indian

Went to a school built in 1925, searched a slice of the front lawn slowly, not a very productive day but I did manage a few modern pennies, a 1930 wheat and this 1898 Indian. Been there quite a few times so I guess that confirms you never find it all.

    6" Excelerator EQ2 opinion

Been out with my first new coil twice so far and I must say I'm not impressed. Went to a couple sites with one being an old park I've made some good finds at in the past with the Pro coil, nothing worth mentioning found besides a few pulltabs 2 to 3 inches deep. Granted, theres not many high...

    Jan 6 finds a 3 silver day

Couple hours out today, been a while since a 3 silver hunt. They all came from a 30 foot long curb strip, I saw the the1935 Quarter sticking out of the dirt when I pulled up to the curb looking for a spot to hunt. Iron was next to one of the Quarters and the dime. The belt buckle is "HICKOCK"...

    Alabama Oldies

Went out about noon today, needless to say I ended up in an old area. Dug the better looking flat button "Treble Gilt Scoville" first, pretty encouraged with it since signals are few. Next came the Broach? I thought it was a shotgun hull, So when did Cubic Zirconia come into use? and were...

    Semi key Barber Dime

As usual in the Minelab Explorer camp, another old "well hunted" public park hunt produced this 1905 "large O" Barber Dime. You can see where it had some stubborn junk stuck on the reverse around the "One Dime" area, I had to use a little electrolysis to remove. It has full Liberty in headband...

    1924 Presidential pin

I dug this little suprise about two weeks back from an old home lot turned into a church yard in the 1950's. Without finding much that day I didn't empty the pouch until today after detecting. I could faintly see a face profile and really had to scrub and dig at it with toothpicks to bring out...

    1906 Dime w/face bustin' out

Back to the old park today for a cool, overcast 2 hour hunt. I like those days because the park is empty and I can go after those "iffy" signals. Well, after digging a little clad and some pulltabs I finally got the deeper hit I wanted, only to look around to see a couple people walking...

    Found a 1922 no D cent...:super:

but the dang thing is absolutely trashed  (well, at least the scratch I added don't matter)!!! I went to a local "Old" pounded park today (1870's-present) for a challenging afternoon after voting, its the kinda place where you really have to work to find anything, anyway a 4 hour hunt...

    Obscure token

Today I hunted for a couple hours on a gentle slope around the driveway entrance to a 1911 golf course, before the warrantied replacement (2nd hunt with it) SE pro crapped out. It is already RMA numbered and ships out in the morning. Anyway, I dug 9 wheats (1919 - 1955), a single 1942 merc...

    First Seated!

Well, I normally just read everybodys posts and admire their finds but yesterday (8/23) I found one thats been on my wishlist for a while. Living in a late 1800's city (B'ham, Al) where the 1880 total population was 3,000 people you just don't dig a ton of oldies. Sure I've dug a fair number of...

    Historic park renovations...

In recent years we have had some of our older parks and fairgrounds fall to new housing developments, updating, renovating, etc. At these areas there has been and will be extensive dirt moving, uncovering virgin ground from yesteryear (as we all know). What is really saddening is the fact that...

    Sweet 08' Indian, silver whatzit?

We finally got some rain down south, I ventured out to the same lot that I posted about with the "key Lincolns" finds. Today I dug '07, 08 Indians in the same hole (08' shown is my nicest ever), 42' 47' wheats stuck together in another hole, 3 Jefferson nickels (1960-1964), a gold plated girls...

    Key & Semi Key Lincolns

Today I visited one of my local haunts where I have been digging some decent finds the past couple weeks. The pics show the 1912D in spectacular shape I dug today, The 1926S I dug last Friday is almost slick but "I think" I can make out a faint S mintmark? The 1914D I dug last year is in BAD...

    Todays meager haul

A small but nice variety was found today. The Susan B. Anthony (my first), and 43' dime were dug near some recent house demolition sites. The Indians (1902, 1904) dug in another area were found stuck together (protected sides of each are shown) with a nice green patina on the outside. Not...

    First Barber & 2 mercs

Earlier this week I dug the 2 Mercs (1918, 1935) along with 9 wheats (1920-1956) with NO zinc cents or clad coinage (what a pleasure) at a long ago vacant lot. Today, I went out for an hour or so to another lot and the first signal I dug, out popped the 1894 'O' Barber Quarter. I know I know its...

Does anybody use the 12 X10 concentric or "DD"?

I'm wanting to hear some input about the 12 X 10 concentric or "DD" widescan coil. Properly tuned, will it get more depth than what I'm currently getting with the stock 9 X 8 concentric? if so about how much? I'm considering buying one and sending my Cortes in with it to get tuned. Input welcome...

    Another silver...and some clad

I checked out a 30' by 15' side yard this afternoon for a few hours and was rewarded with my second oldest quarter, a 1935S and various clad. (My oldest quarter is an worn Standing Liberty of unknown date) Edit: other older notables are 6 wheats (all in the1940's) , and a 1947 nickel
