    I'm getting better, somehow

Batteries needed charging on my Deus so I took up my Minelab 705. Darn, I've been doing so good with it the past few days. Hunting over places I hunted with the Deus and finding pennies and quarters I'd passed over before in my yard. Then today I took the 705 back in the woods to an old...

    Disturbing sight at new site

Only had 45 min this evening so drove the short distance to new permission. Yesterday I had noticed a dog igloo in the back yard but didn't see the dog out and it wasn't barking. This evening it was out of the igloo but still not barking at me, a stranger in the yard. It was just laying there...

Finally found a Buff Nickel...and a cap pistol

Got out in the cold today to an old house that belongs to a friend who said it was okay. Being rented so I cleared it with the renters, too. Misty rain coming down and my hands got cold. Found first buffalo nickel. Probably an everyday occurrence for most of you, but a buffalo nickel has...

My new plan for obtaining permissions

Today I stopped at a yard sale and the people owned the lot next door. There had been a gas station with a house. I asked the lady if they'd consider letting me metal detect and got an immediate NO. My husband doesn't like anyone on the property. Me, to myself, so how about all these yard...

    Digger Modification

I've got a new Lesch digger, so I decided to cut the end off my old Minelab digger to make it more useful for scooping out loose dirt. Used a hacksaw to cut the tip off of the digger and then a grinder to put an edge on it. . Also had a problem with the minelab sheath being torn. I cut off...

    Made a water antenna

Was unbelievably easy and no cost at all since we had scrap pieces of coax cable. What I don't like is that it is taped over the area where the charging clip goes. So that will have to be un-taped every time it needs charged. Going to get a piece of Velcro or rubber band to hold it instead of...

Another horeshoe and stove lid lifter

The last horseshoe I dug was huge and this must be just a little pony shoe about 4 inches wide. The other thing is from an old cook stove, the front fit into a place in the lid so it could be lifted up. Not sure why you'd need to lift the lids on the stove because you don't load wood there...

    Silver dime in the yard...

Had to stick close to home today and found this 1952 dime in the yard with my XP Deus and I was using CD Todd's program. Thank you, CD Todd. Anyway it came out real black looking but still different than clad. I dipped it in some silver cleaner for 10 sec like the directions say. Then I read...

1954 dog license, Peace buckle, Frosty, and 1901 Dime.

Went to a city lot today, have hunted there before but now they've dug out a basement foundation so thought I'd check out the dirt piles. Didn't find anything in the piles, so I searched the rest of the lot. 1954 dog license. Wonder how much that cost? The last one I bought was only 4.00...

    Impulse Control

Dug this thimble today and it just looked really good right out of the ground. Brought it home, showed it to my DH, and he told me how to unbend it using a piece of oak dowel and a rubber mallot. Okay okay, you can do it for me. But then I saw some writing on it and couldn't wait so I put a...

    odd shaped metal piece

Found in woods at old 30's homestead. (the nickel is for size reference)

Metal barn junk from my Yard

Who would think all this stuff would be buried in their yard. My lawn wasn't exactly the manicured type with all the crabgrass but now it looks like it's been plowed. You can't remove this type of iron through little plugs. It'll be back to normal after a good rain.

    Dug a Couple of knives

Found these at a site I've searched a lot. Not really searching coin sounds just anything loud. The copper button sounded REAL good.

    Silver Quarter and Wheat Pennies

Short hunt this morning at a site where I had previously found a silver quarter. After a couple of junk items, I got a nice hit and lifted the sod back on its hinge. The quarter was on the bottom of the sod and I could just see the edge of a white looking circular piece. I got my thumb nail...

    Hatchet

They bulldozed some blacktop up from one of my sites and it seemed to make the detector too noisy. I did find this hatchet which cleaned up nice with an electric wire brush. It says drop forged, probably had a rubber handle, so not too old. It's nice and light though.

Hard to get the lid off

I found this Woodbury face cream bottle while metal detecting because of the metal cap. The cap has initials scratched into it so I was hoping it had some child's treasure in it. Tried channel lock pliars with a towel to protect the lid but the lid bent anyway. Then I boiled awhile and that...

This looks like it might be gold plated

Found this today at vacant city lot. It looked like a round stone when it was all dirty; it reacted to the pin pointer but it looked like some kind of nothing. When cleaning it up I discovered it had a nice monogram initial, H I think and could be pried apart. So it is a pendant of some kind...

    Chauffeur badge, garbage tag, brooch

Vacant city lot using the Deus. Didn't find any coins. Too bad I hit the chauffeur badge with the digger, because I saw one just like it on a site for 69.00. The brooch is from early 30's, it says sterling on the back. Saw one like it on Etsy for 63.00. Found a pocket knife, but it was...

    Old Spigot and Lock

Typical finds but nobody seems to be posting anything here today. Husband cleaned these with a wire wheel. What is different about the spigot is that the spout doesn't have threads for a hose connection. So I'm planning to use it to make a fountain. The handle would turn even before cleaning...
