    Silver alloy class ring.

Found a ten year old men's class ring today. My first piece of "almost real" jewelry. I've found several pieces of junk jewelry but today's is the first to be worth anything at all. Ring is marked "Jostens ELT"; the ELT indicates a blend of at least 70% silver with some platinum and who knows...

Star Wars: The Force Weakens (spoilers)

Watched it tonight. My thoughts: 1. Much better than those last three abominations George Lucas made. 2. However, there was a huge, annoying plot hole. After the kids and the soccer ball droid hook up with Han Solo and Chewbacca, why did they go to the planet with the little orange bar...

    Silver plate flatware numbers?

Found a teaspoon today that is clearly plated with something. The spoon was about four inches or so down, and rang in consistently from 06-12 to 09-12. I would expect silver plated flatware to ring in much higher. I suspect this may be some sort of nickel plating instead of silver plating...

    "The E-trac chokes in iron."

This all came out of one hole today. The big nail and the penny (a 1959 copper memorial) were almost, but not quite, touching, about 4-5 inches down. I pulled them out of the hole at the same time, with one hand. The little piece of foil is a piece of metallic label off of something or...

    Larger Coiltek Treasure Seekers?

I am impressed enough with the 6" Treasure Seeker that I am tempted to try one of the larger ones. Has anyone tried the 10x5 or 12x8 Treasure Seeker coils? If so how do they compare to the stock coil?

    Damaged or altered coins.

I enjoy finding coins that have either been deliberately damaged, or altered in some way. I think they are interesting. Anyone else enjoy digging them? Here is what I think is one that I found this morning. I could be wrong but I think this is a US nickel that has been squished in a shop...

    Coiltek 6" Treasureseeker

You don't hear very much about these, too many other sniper coils for the Etrac I suppose. I bought one recently but only tried it out seriously this morning. I went clad stabbing at a nearby school that was built in the 1970's. I managed to last only a couple of hours before the heat and...

    Environmental Covers

I already had a control box cover for my Etrac, but I decided that the grip could use some protection too. So I contacted BTD Covers and ordered just their grip cover and their battery compartment cover. They are based in New York state; you can Google them if interested. My initial...

    Oddball rifle cartridge

I dug a piece of .41 Swiss Vetterli Rimfire brass out of a residential yard this evening. It was about 5 inches or so down and sounded kind of like a spluttery dime on my F70. Took me a while to figure this sucker out - my understanding is that ammunition production for this old surplus rifle...

    F70 Sensitivity Settings.

I noticed something curious about the sensitivity settings today on my F70. I was hunting right beside an occupied residence, directly beneath the home power line and the telephone line. Lots of emi, obviously. I was running the 11inch dd, 3 tones, -3 thresh, disc at 8 to reject most nails. I...

First silver of the year, first silver with the F70.

I've had a rough time getting comfortable with the F70, but it is growing on me. Only my second silver find, and the F70 banged on it hard. It was about 5 inches down, beneath a layer of driveway gravel. :veryangry: Had to work to get this one but it was worth a blunted Lesche. Despite...

A few hours of clad knifing with the ETPro

I call it "clad knifing" instead of "clad stabbing" because I use a Lesche instead of a screwdriver. Don't judge me. Inspired by MudPuppy's recent outing where he stabbed up about $500 worth of coins in 25 minutes with his magical F70, I decided to hit a nearby school that I have permission to...

    Cleaning rusty cast iron balls?

I've found a rusty 1.7 inch iron sphere that I'd like to clean up and see if I can find any writing on. There was quite a bit of Civil War activity in my area, but I seriously doubt if there were any 18 pounders around, for this ball to be canister shot. If I had to guess I'd say it was a...

    First Silver.

Been looking all year, and finally found that elusive first Silver. I have permission to hunt a school system near me that has some old grounds, and finally felt good enough to go check it out. I've been struggling with Plantar Fasciitis all summer long and haven't been very active, but...

    Trashy yards with the F70?

I'm new to metal detecting and just got an F70 that I'm trying to decipher. My background: been hunting with a Eurotek Pro this summer, until now. Looking for coins, not much interested in relics at this point. I'm mainly searching older residential yards that are saturated with old rusty...
