    Early coal mines

Yes, I know the times well. Maybe just part. Ha. Ha. I'm an old coal miner and fire boss. So was my dad and his dad and my mother's dad. I remember buying things at the stores. I find miner tags a lot and a few old store tokens. I find carbide lights, but nothing much is left. I still have my...

Found an old coin. I need help in ID'ing it.

I haven't been detecting much lately due to health issues. Yesterday was in the 70's. :detecting: What's a little pain. lol There is a park that has yielded a few good finds, like large cent and a cw era belt buckle. Funny, I have never seen anyone detect place. Well, this one has me stumped. I...

There are some good people at Fisher Lab.

I have been an insane, crazy, metal detecting nut. In Florida it was never too hot and in WV. it has never been too cold. Then, a few years ago I got old. I do pipe work and after a 60+ hour wk I have been too tired to detect. I found out my body was all out of wack. All energy was gone and I...

    Anyone have this problem ?

I went to the beach and my f-70 won't gb. I know how to gb it on the beach. Came home and the same thing happened. It stays on 90. Of course, no depth. changed batteries, ck cable, etc. Everything else works. It is my favorite detector. Any suggestions?

    My question is:

Detectors are like rifles. Each has a purpose. I like my Ace 250 for tot lots with the small coil. I can find rings next to metal poles that other detectors can't find. My other detector could not get with in 14 " of the pole. In a CW battlefield I detect in a lot brush from the woods, my other...

Another trip to WV. CW. Battlefield.

F 70 in the open woods sure is fun. I got lead. I hope there will be something else in this field besides lead. The lead. One lead had a star burst pattern on the inside. I have not seen one like that before. [attachment 217193 Img_0015.jpg] The trash. [attachment 217192 Img_0018.jpg]...

Another trip to WV. CW. Battlefield.

The weather was good. The hill was slick. Found more lead. There are other things here, I hope. The lead! (Click the pic. for a real close look.) [attachment 217187 Img_0015.jpg] Looks like a broken sight. Not sure. [attachment 217188 Img_0024.jpg] Other trash. [attachment 217190 Img_0018.jpg]

    MD'ed WV. CW. battle field finds & I haven't a clue.

I thought I try a CW. site. I figured It would be hunted out. I MD'ed it for 4 hours. I detected below where the North's canons sat. It was a steep hill with cliffs. So the lead I found had to be Confederate. If there was any difference. The war just started at the time of this battle. Some of...

First time I MD'ed a CW. battle field.

I'm getting tired of MD'ing log cabin trash and they are trashy. So I tried MD'ing for CW trash. I MD'ed down hill from where the canons sat. The city police told me it was a good place to go. He said everyone throws their trash over the hill; back than and even today. It was pretty steep...

I just got back from a trip to Croatia.

Most places are strictly prohibited to MD'ing so I left mine home. I did a lot of drooling. Took a lot of nice pictures. I was in one place that was inhabited for over 4000 years. I could have easily MD'ed some locations without a soul in the area. I met one Croatian man that does that. He...

What do you do with all the iron junk that you find at old log cabins?

I leave a lot of the big stuff at the sites. Yesterday I left a double and single bladed axe. Some ornate cast iron pieces, plow blade and always a chimney damper. I have so many hitching rings, some big and some small. I have brass harness guides and iron square nail galore. I have a big cast...

I was wondering if anyone on this forum could date this house.

All the nails are square and it sets on field stone. I have been working 6-10 for 3 years now and it is all about to come to an end. (That's the construction business.) And I want to do some heavy duty detecting. I have lived here in the country for about three years. All the homes are...

I want to thank you for answering my post on MD'ing in Italy and Croatia. It may have kept me out of jail.

While in Italy I met two guys from France MD'ing on Fumachinio Beach. They said they only got 50 euros for the day with an older model Fishers. They spoke little English, but we had a good time in our meeting. He even gave me his e-mailing address. I didn't have much time, but would have loved...

    Is MD'ing allowed in Croatia?

I asked this on the Metal detecting forum, but didn't get an answer on if it was allowed in Croatia. I will be in Italy Aug, 28. Later that week I will be in Croatia on the beach. I will have very little time for MD'ing at the beach. I will than travel to the villages of my grandparents. We will...

Fortunately she speaks Italian. Than we will fly to Croatia's Dalmatian coast. The beaches are packed there all summer...

Did you know, that right in the middle of Antietam is a ...

private farm. I was there this past week. I watched him plow his field. The park ranger said he wouldn't sell his place to the park. I had my detectors but couldn't leave my wife with our autistic daughter. She was in a lot of pain. So was I because I couldn't go talk to that farmer.

Got out a little with the F 70.

4 hour hunt and I enjoyed every minute of it. My work cut back to 50 hour week with optional 60hour week. I hope they mean it. They are always changing their minds. Don't have much time for honey do list and MD'ing. First place I went was a pile of top soil from 200 homes they demo-ed. one...

It was great to get out with my F 70!!

We had a break in the weather. With just a sweatshirt, I took a hike to a wooded area that use to be a ball field. It was about a half a mile hike with little snow on the ground with temps in the 40's F. The quad-runner trails helped my trek. My father -in -law told me the ball field was last...
