    From the river today

No coins again, but a very ornate sterling silver spoon, solid silver, not plated. Both sides of the spoon shown. Has 4 Hallmarks on back of spoon. Can make out the ANCHOR Hallmark and the letter O Hallmark. I can't tell what the other 2 Hallmarks are, but the ANCHOR tells me it was made in...

    Another gun found

just 2 weeks after finding my first one. The first one was a pocket Beretta 22 cal shown here. Todays gun seems to be a 45 cal. Both found in the same river just downstream from 2 different bridges in central Jersey. Strange, I never found a gun before, then in the past 2 weeks I found two, both...

    A first for me.

A real gun. 22 cal, 8 shot Beretta small pocket pistol. Beretta started making these small pistols in the 1980's. Found in the river, 12 inch deep water, no mud, river has a solid red shale bottom. There is a main bridge not far upstream and a high crime city full of unsavory characters. And so...

My finds display is truly a work of art.

Still have a lot more goodies to display but if I over do it, it might look like a pile of junk.

Dug up a red clay pot of some sort.

Was buried in the river sand bars next to a piece of metal about 4 inches deep. That exact area was a 1700's trading post so I thought just maybe it could be old. Took it to the museum located there and the curator said a lot of Indian (from India) figurines, scarves, and religious things are...

Been about 12 months since I dug Spanish silver

Today was the day and it was my first target. Next two hours only a Jefferson nickel. Its a Carolus III. Maybe one Real? The Half Reals I found are a hair smaller than a U.S. dime. Found this silver in a corn field today. Jabbo

Some 1700's pennies from the fields today

Behind a 1700's house. The Georgius II Hibernia penny with harp/crown is in real good condition, about 1750, date is under the harp. The other two large pennies are toast. Also some relics and a musket ball. It was a fun 2 hour hunt.

1798 large penny was picked out of a field

Was there three times with my other detector and found no old coins and so I was surprised to find the large penny today, date is barely visible. Found the Merc and the wheatie today in a different field. The field where the large penny was is big with tall weeds but only a small section is...

Make your Garrett Pro-Pointer ON-OFF AUTOMATIC simply by

loosening the cap a little. The battery won't be held firmly against the battery contacts. I removed the rubber sponge from inside the cap but that might not be necessary. Anyway, when the Pro-Pointer is held upside down it will shut off and it will automatically turn on again when you use it to...

When searching old farm land be sure you are in crop fields

and not in portions of land that was cleared strictly for fire wood. The crop field portions is where the old coins are, the fire wood portions have almost no old coins, maybe a few modern coins and pull tabs. Jabbo

Some recent finds from the river,

farms, and the woods. Sinkers, musket balls, bells, 1888 IH penny, Buff nickel, 1722 French Denier copper coin with visible date. Horse buckles, small buckle, etc. In the right picture I don't know what the ring with the finger tab is, any advice is appreciated. Last week I brought a load of...

    English coat of arms?

Attractive pin found in a 1700's farm field. About the size of a quarter, was black when I dug it, but some scrubbing with a brass wire brush and silver polish cleaned it up real nice. Has a British crown at the top. The symbols on it are too tiny to ID, even with a magnifying glass. The pin on...

The river gave up some goodies today.

Yesterday I was there 4 hours and found only a Memorial penny. I guess it wasn't my day to detect. Today I did much better in less time. Dug up a King George II 1745 half penny and a KG 1751 penny. Both are in decent condition and were found in the gravel/stone bars along the river. Also 4...

Went back to the river today

Same area where I found the silver bust dime yesterday. Found two large borderless pennies with no detail. I'd say they're King Georges, we find those around here. A fired musket ball that looks like it hit something. A 2 inch diameter, 14.5 Oz metal ball found in the water. Could be some kind...

    Maybe MineLabs are the best.

Bought an X-Terra705 only three months ago and already it found me a U.S silver 1820 bust dime yesterday. (Posted in Todays Finds forum). Been hoping to find a silver bust since the 1970's and it's my first one. It was about 6" deep in the loose rocks/gravel/stones at the waters edge that I can...
