    Hunting in Corpus Christi, TX?

Thanks! I watched him. Looks like he had better luck than I; that's about the area North Beach I hunted. Really low tide; very quiet! Also when I went the sand was very oily. Sand didn't appear this way in Crusty's video.

    Hunting in Corpus Christi, TX?

Thank you for taking the time to give me some good input! And thanks for telling me where not to go!! I read on-line to stay away from detecting in the National Seashore. Virginia Beach was great at night. Rarely had any interaction with anyone, except once someone asked me to look for their...

High Karat Gold and Platinum Detecting: Questions and Observations

A friend brought me an 18k gold pendant, and 18k necklace, and a platinum/gold pendant to check how these indicate with the CTX 3030. -18k Pendant: The pendant was 18k gold, approximately 3/4" diameter and 1/8" thick. We put that on the ground. I had the detector on Andy's "Beach Mode" and...

    Outstanding Minelab Repair Service!

I had an issue as explained in my "Electronics Issue" post, where there was a problem with my pinpointing trigger that affected the overall operation. So I sent the detector back to Minelab for repair. The detector is about 5 years old so way out of warranty, and I wondered how much this would...

    Electronics issue

Today at the beach I was detecting in the surf about knee deep. About 3 hours into my hunt the detector (CTX 3030) acted up when I pushed the pinpoint button. The screen details would blink on and off, sound was jumping around, the indications were chattering all around the screen even though I...

4 years of findings, beach only.

Well here is about 4 years of metal detecting (beach stuff only) with the CTX 3030. About 100 bucks of change, and the stuff on the grid paper is either silver 925 or gold. Of course this doesn’t show the piles of aluminum trash, and the many Matchbox cars that I’ve given away to kids along the way.

CTX 3030 one tough detector in the rough surf!!

Well, just got back from an all night and part day hunt for a lady's wedding ring at Nags Head, Va. I didn't find her rings that were lost around the 18th. The surf conditions were rather rough,Thursday to Friday morning the waves were only 3-4' but really rough. At night the rough surf made it...

Detecting gold ring in surf question

Does anyone have a feel for if or not a gold ring will still be within detection depth after 2 weeks in surf? Thanks, Mike

    Night Beach Hunt, Tiffany Ring

Virginia Beach at night. Interesting night as there was not many people on the beach, but a C-130, helicopters, police, and boats looking for a distressed swimmer. This went on all night. not sure if they found the fellow. Anyway, hours on the beach. The surf was rough so I stayed mostly on the...

Anderson Neptune Handle - Carbon Fiber (T-Rex Sand Scoop) comparison

I've heard over and over that the carbon fiber scoops were much lighter and tougher than wooden handles you can get to fit the T-Rex scoop. Since I have a severe case of tennis elbow (wonder where that came from?) I thought lets see if I can lighten the load by buying a carbon fiber handle. So I...

Anderson Neptune Handle - Carbon Fiber (T-Rex Sand Scoop) comparison

For all my CTX 3030 friends who have given me a wealth of info, here is something for the beach hunters. Maybe this is the wrong Forum but wanted to get it to 3030 folks first. I've heard over and over that the carbon fiber scoops were much lighter and tougher than wooden handles you can get to...

Need help IDing old coin, Virginia

I obtained permission to metal detect an area in Virginia that was a center of commerce back in the late 1700's and houses still standing from mid to late 1800's. Well I was out there for only an hour and found this old quarter-sized coin that has a lot of inscriptions on the back. I'll try to...

Trusting & Understanding CTX readings (2 observations)

Just 2 interesting observations noted during my last 2 hunts: 1. I recently got permission to hunt around a 1920's home site that burned down. All that is left is the chimney. the area is riddled with nails and trash. Anyway, as I was sweeping, I noticed a solid circle around 12-38 that would...

Another interesting beach trip: Findings and Indications

Another beach hunt today. This is it for 7 hours. I pooped out early on this trip. -Cross: Solid 12-06. I think I damaged it with the scoop. No markings but acid test says ~14k. It is very thin. Lots of detail in the cross. -The little nut (12-17) really gave me a run for my money. It kept...

    Pole recommendations for scoop?

I've been using a 9" TRex scoop with poles from Lowes. I get the solid oak ones with the metal sheath and just drill a hole through the thing and attach with a bolt. This works great but is really heavy especially after 10-13 hours! Can anyone recommend something lighter that still has the...

    Dream hunt! Findings, indications

Last Saturday night/Sunday morning beach hunt was the best I could ever hope for! Doing this for 2 years now and the best finds were when people asked me to look in a specific area to find something they lost. Other detectorist would find sizable rings or gold pieces; I never came across...

Mid Atlantic Boot Camp this year?

Message for Andy: I was signed up for the Petersburg, VA Boot Camp, but this was canceled due to low attendance. I was interested (and I imagine there are others) to know if you will be holding another Mid-Atlantic region Boot Camp this year (For me, this means anywhere between Pennsylvania to...

Beach hunting: Ferrous Coin/High trash question.

Strange thing that I Don't understand is when on the beach, if I do a swing past my wife's wedding band sometimes there is no signal (In High Trash). When I go to Ferrous Coin, the signal is clear.
