    Happy spring

Greetings ya'all. I'm in the Boston area. The spring thaw just came in yesterday. (March came in like a lion this year). So I am pretty psyched. There is still plenty of snow around, but most of the snow should be gone later this week. I'm looking forward to going to Hampton Beach with my...

Does the new update help much with pinpointing?

Hi. Does the new update help much with pinpointing? I am running the original build. Pinpointing is poor. I even have targets "disappear" on recovery. Not sure how a target can just disappear. Must be false signals from the outstart.

    Optional power pack

Isn't there an optional battery power pack available that sort of clips on to the detector? I know it would add a little more weight, but I would be inclined to go with this. I'm not into all this recharging stuff. I don't even use the wireless headphones. Sometimes forwards is backwards. Esp as...

Why not have Auto Noise Cancel run on startup?

Why not have Auto Noise Cancel automatically run on startup? Those Australians must love tinkering with settings.

Got those winter cabin fever blues? Hints

If you are like me, winter is not the greatest time for metal detecting. In the US, winters can be hard times for metal detectorists. During the winter, the weather can be unpleasant, esp in the North. Also, the ground freezes up during the wintertime in the Northern latitutudes. What is a poor...

A post found regarding to update or to not update software

I found an interesting post made by C. L. Carmichael on md-hunter forum. He did an extensive study on a wide variety of targets using both updated software, and the original software. He published a large colored chart showing on what targets the upgraded software does better, and on what...

A post at md-hunter caught my eye

I was doing some research on the Equinox, when I came across a post by George Abraham on md-hunter forum that caught my eye. He was lamenting the fact that he was not finding nickels to his satisfaction. Why anyone would want to dig for nickels is beyond me, but apparently George loves his...

    Prelim Equinox 800 review

I have owned most of the high end machines by major manufacturers. So I feel qualified to comment on my initial impressions of the Equinox 800. I have only used the Equinox a few times, so I am by no means an expert with the 800. Actually, I was hoping to get sort of a turn on and go machine...

    Rock busting tip

Greetings. Have a real hard granite or quartz rock that you want to bust up? Just dont have a mini-anvil handy? Try this: Use a small 5 or 6" cast iron frypan. Mine even has little pour spouts on each side. Perfect for those rock omelets! Mmmm. HH Kev

    Potatoe rock question

Greetings. I'm just getting into prospecting. In addition to gold nuggets, I look for what I call potatoe rocks. Potatoe rocks are hot rocks, or any rock that catches my eye. I collect them and save them for further analysis at home. I found a potatoe rock that is roundish, about the same size...

Going wireless with the Rapoo H3070

Greetings. I always hated that earphone cable like you wouldnt believe. I'm six ft, so I never could put my detector down anywhere without taking off my headphones. I always had to juggle my detector in one hand while I read the user manual, or dug a hole. It really took alot of the fun out of...

    Target ID Stabilty?

Greetings. What is Target ID Stability? Do many of you use it? Does it help much, etc.? I never see much about Target ID Stabilty. The user manual suggests using this in highly Mineralized terrain (such as beaches). Digger doesnt have much to say about it in his book, niether. HH

One outing with 7.5 kHz and ditched it.

Hi. I guess most of you know that I am a salt water beach hunter. I recently received my new 705 with the stock 7.5 kHz coil. I took it to Hampton Beach (for those of you who are familiar with NE U.S.) I tested it out. I found out that this rig can only go down two inches in wet sand on a...

    Minelab coils

Greetings. OK. Think of the range of TID numbers on the 705. Runs from -8 on the left to what, 40 on the right? Something like that. Now, the TID's on the right of the range cover targets like silver, old coins, and clad coins. These targets are best searched for with a 3 kHz coil. The TID's on...

My new Lady Floral by Seymour just arrived

Greetings. My new Lady Floral by Seymour shovel just arrived. 40 1/2 inches, 2 1/2 lbs. Real wood shaft with D handle. Tempered steel. I would not recommend this shovel for any metal detecting but beach hunting. But for the beach hunter (and the gardener) this is a real sweet shovel! Nice long...

Hi. Any beach hunters here besides me? BTW, my new toy came in today. :hot: Wow! It only took like 2 or 3 days to get here!! Now I'm just waiting for my new wireless headset To arrive. And my new kewl shovel. Can't wait to see my new shovel. Supposed to be as light as two and a half loaves of...

    Hidden GT in Massachusetts

Greetings. I know where there is a ghost town here in Massachusetts. I know what the name of the town was. I have been there several times. There's lots and lots of stone walls. And cellar holes. No standing buildings. And a big rock in what used to be the town center with town names and arrows...
