14 inches down, Missouri State Guard Camp

The owner said all the rocks were taken to the creek. I will see if he knows where they are and try see what kind of rock it is. I will get some photos.

14 inches down, Missouri State Guard Camp

I took a look but it's not showing anything in my area. I'm about 50 miles north of Kansas City. The owner told me it was just dirt about chest high built like a small levee and was probably 100 yards long. Again this is all according to the story.

14 inches down, Missouri State Guard Camp

I am in NW Missouri. This site was a well known recruitment camp for the Missouri State Guard in late 1861. There were at least 1500 and history says maybe up to 3,000 recruits. The owner said his father had no interest in history but told him about the earthworks he removed in order to farm...

14 inches down, Missouri State Guard Camp

Interesting. The owner of the property told me that his father had removed a earthworks that was in this field. He also said there were rock piles everywhere. What would the piles of rock been used for.

14 inches down, Missouri State Guard Camp

    3030/Nox observation

I have been using the 3030 about 3 weeks coming from about 5 years on the Etrac. I must say I am impressed. One of my friends has a new Equinox 800 & we have been comparing a lot of signals. Now before I get in trouble, is it okay to compare these two machines on this forum or must that been...

Seems to be some type of thumb operated part????

    1861 SKIRMISH HALF DIMES

Found two Half Dimes Friday at the 1861 skirmish site here in NW Missouri. First one I found was an 1835 Capped with a hole punched in it. The second was an 1839 Seated. The 39 is caked up bad but the 35 is pretty nice. If 1835 was the soldiers birth year, that would have made his age 26 in 1861.

ANY IDEAS ON THIS BUTTON #2

Since the last button was identified so quickly, let's try another. This one also appears to be a cast metal like pewter but looks to have some sort of silver plating or paint still showing on the back. The cast seam on the back runs from one side to the other and is continuous over the eye...

    1861 SKIRMISH SURPRISE BUTTON

Had a post over on the Etrac forum trying to figure out a button I found Tuesday. I thought it was a civilian button so I didn't post it here. It ended up being a cast Infantry button from the war of 1812. Most Missouri State Guard units had no official uniform so they wore civilian clothing...

    ANY IDEAS ON THIS BUTTON

Not sure what the letter is on button or what is below the letter in the circle. It is a one piece metal cast with a seam on the back and I believe the original eye that is broken off was part of the casting. I have found reference to buttons of this type being made in the 1750's to 1820's.

    1861 SKIRMISH MINIE ID HELP

I have now found four identical .58 minies at the 1861 Missouri State Guard vs Union site. Not sure if I have Guard or Union minies. All have half seams & somewhat of a sprue tip. Conical bases have no markings. I am guessing they are field molded or are cast manufactured????

ID HELP ON SPUR, MINIE & .32 BULLET

Found the following items at Missouri State Guard vs Union skirmish site in NW Missouri. I think spur is a Federal M1859 with foliate design. The Minie is pretty tough to measure but .54 seems to be the average & the small bullet with the domed base measures .32 cal.

    1861 Camp #1 GOLD AGAIN

Corn finally got harvested at Missouri State Guard Camp #1. My partner sold his Tejon & now has a Safari. We went up to the camp last Saturday and he found an 1856 Gold Dollar. That makes the 3rd gold coin from this site.1845-2 1/2 dollar, 1853-1 dollar & now the 1856. We are still trying to get...

    CAPPED DIME

The NW Missouri skirmish site yielded another .58 Minie & an 1833 Capped Dime today. The dime has been beat up a bit from the farming. Been hunting in two tone ferrous the past week in an iron infested area that I have hunted earlier in conductive and my partner has hunted with his Tesoro...

    SKIRMISH SITE YIELDS CAPPED DIME

Hit the 1861 Missouri State Guard vs Union skirmish site after work. Found another .58 minie and an 1833 Capped Dime. Again the farming has not been kind to the coin's condition but it's still a neat find. Headed back early tomorrow. No telling what will show up next.

    1861 SKIRMISH SITE

Still working the 1861 skirmish site. Have yet to locate camp. Some areas are in crops and can't be checked until fall. Was able to make a few nice finds this week. 2 union cuff buttons, a .58 minie & a couple of unknowns. One item may be a broken J hook although it has a double button & I have...

Found this at skirmish site. Any ideas on what it might be?

POSSIBLE CARVED GAME PIECE??? & .45 bullet

Found this at an 1861 skirmish site close to a suspected camp. It is a bit under .32 caliber and shorter. My best guess is it's a carved game piece. I thought it was hexagonal but it actually has 7 sides. Maybe it's some kind of rifleing marks? The bottom is slightly concave and the top is...
