    Firmware update problem

Machine works fine. Got one update installed with no problem off of Xchange. With the 1.6.9-1.0.40 update I get a "This update is not compatible with the 3030 firmware Please update the application." No luck with the std update sequence and I don't really want to do a drag and drop manual file...

    10 Hrs On The E-Trac

Just upgraded from the Quattro. Some observations and opinions-familiar territory and a rehash of known topics for most, but lurkers are probably looking -I am one too. A turn on and go machine. Well balanced with the std coil. Used it for 4 hrs today with no problem, although it was level land...

Well, today's hunt with the BHID 300

in super tune mode pretty much convinced me it truly is deep. Hunted dry/wet sand with control over digging and was getting pull tabs and ring tabs 12" plus and and half a pull tab 12" plus, probably around 15". I left several targets at waist to shoulder deep at a different site yesterday that...

More initial thoughts on the BHID 300

Have used it for about 15 hrs now. Tried gobble-gobble's tip of using discriminate for rusted bottle caps and listening for broken signals like the Excal hits. Helped some, but I also got a broken signal on a crusty penny. In supertune it is plenty deep, but on my machine I need nearly maximum...

Thanks to gobble-gobble and R-n-R and some questions

First trip out with my BHID 300. Hit 3 sanded in spots. Managed 1 dime, 3 pennies, a lead fishing weight and a 14 KT ring. Also lots of the usual junk, pull tabs, etc. The pennies hit with sound and green light. Not really exciting, but they were in the same hole as some rusted bottle caps. The...

I have a question for you Excal II users that had an

older Excal. Is the II worth the price differential compared to a nice, used older Excal? My 8" mono coil on the Infinium is outstanding in heavy surf and current, but sometimes I don't feel like digging iron, so I am looking seriously at a Excal 800 for tougher conditions. I have an Excal 1000...

    Well, it finally happened. I

went over an area with my Infinium that I had just hit with my Excal and found a women's Platinum wedding band and a lots more clad. There was a fair amount of black sand and a lot of wave action, but I doubt all those targets showed up in 30". Have redetected areas before, but only found a few...

    OK, now now I am

convinced concerning the barely audible to silent threshold setting on the Excal. 2 gold rings in 2 days, one in dry/wet sand and the other shoulder-deep water. My finds have measurably increased using this setting compared to early this year and last year, which is impressive because the...

A shout out to Gulf Hunter and

his post regarding detecting settings on the Excal, by way of cjc. I have been using a really quiet threshhold in the water with excellent results. We are horribly sanded in and the surf was rough today, so I hunted the dry sand and a little wet sand up high for 4 hours with the threshold set...

    The 5X10 coil

did a good deed today. It found a heavy white gold wedding band in the dry sand for a grateful beach goer. A beach attendant called me out of the water to ask me if I could find a ring for a desperate guy. The water sucked today anyway as a trough I have been hunting quit giving up targets and I...

I would appreciate some thoughts on a conundrum.

There are stretches of a beach I hunt where my X-70 with the 3kHz and 5X10 coils and my Quattro with any coil have either buried cable interference or interference from nearby condos and hotels. No combination of the usual setting tweaks eliminate the interference. My 7.5kHz concentric and Excal...

    A 5 Hour Hunt

with everything I found for the benefit of you lurkers wondering about metal detecting as a hobby and /or trying decide on a detector purchase. This hunt was in the same site as the 6 hour hunt post below, but done with the 6"DD coil, so this post is also to help some of you decide if this coil...

    A 6 hour hunt

with the 5X10 cross gridded after detecting with the 3kHz coil and a very small area with the Quattro/8" Minelab coil. I had pulled lots of targets from this area, so imagine my surprise. I don't consider myself a sloppy hunter and the area has lots of iron, so I think the 18.75 frequency is a...

    What Minelab should have

produced. An Environmental Cover that has a velcro flap opening for the battery door. It also has two velcro straps that go under the box, protecting the bottom and eliminating the need, at least for me, two rubber bands around the Minelab cover to help keep sand from getting between the cover...

    3kHz Coil and a question

I now have at least 150 hrs on this coil. As expected, and probably stating the obvious, it hits hard and ID's well at 28 and above but hits all over the map below that. I dig everything except iron and have found if there is a 10 or a 12 jumping around there is a good chance of the target being...

    Two Good Excal Upgrades

    Two Good Excal Upgrades

One is the NIMH battery pack from onlybatterypacks.com. Just finished 15.5 hrs on the first charge before the first squeal. Also impressive was the 17 days it held the charge. Sweet. The other is the new 2 piece Lightning Rod from Demarco. Very well made and light. Combined with a belt mount...

    OK All You Lurkers

Trying to decide whether to purchase a X-70 or not? I lurked for a long time too and sent some PM's to posters on this board with all information very helpful and appreciated. So here is my take. My first choice in hunting is water with the Excal or Infinium. Next is dry sand beach and last...

    3KHZ Coil

I have 80 plus hrs on the 5x10 and around 2 hrs on the std coil. All dry to wet sand on the beach. Just got a 3KHZ coil for land hunting this winter and have a little over 5 hrs on the dry sand trying it out. Love it. As expected, hits clad hard and deep. Just dug a penny between 12-15". Gives...

    Excal NIMH battery pack

For those of you wanting to switch to NIMH easily, Onlybatterypacks sells a 1500ma pack for 45.00. I didn't find out about it until I had all ready gone the Batteries Plus route. A pain, since my local store didn't even have the 2/3 NIMH batteries and I had to order from a separate vendor.
